When people ask, “What’s Genlighten.com?” we usually say, “It’s a marketplace for genealogy research services.” Sometimes people reply, “Oh, I don’t need that! I do my own research.” But truthfully, even experienced professionals find times when engaging the services of another researcher makes sense. When that time comes, our goal is to make it easy for you to find and work with someone whose proven research skills are a good match for the project–someone you can hire with confidence.
So, what makes Genlighten different from other sites that provide lists of genealogists for hire?
First, we ask clients to review providers at the end of every project. Their comments and ratings let you read what others have said about a provider before you reach out to set up your own project. We also let providers post work samples and give them a chance to ask colleagues to provide us with references we can share.
Second, we’re with you every step of the way. Each Genlighten project has a tracking page that brings together requests, proposals, quotes, messages, shared documents and images, reports, and payments in one easy-to-find place. If you have a question or a concern, we’re just a phone call or an email away–even on evenings and weekends. We work hard to help you have a positive research experience.
We’ve come to know many of the genealogists who list on Genlighten through email exchanges, phone conversations, and/or in-person chats at genealogy conferences and we feel confident recommending them. Genlighten providers regularly take on a wide variety of projects, big and small, including retrieving records from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, helping document lineage society applications, and applying creativity and expertise to break through brick walls.
