Obtaining vacant Government land started with an application, and methods varied over time and place. Records often exist even if the land was never received. These records They could give proof of an ancestor’s time and place even if he never settled in an area. These records can also provide evidence of wealth, marital status, family relationships, and military service, and when grouped together can help with F.A.N. club research.
