Guild of One-Name Studies – Booth Number – 513

Established in 1979, the Guild is a charitable organization that serves to inform, educate and support individuals and groups engaged in one-name (surname) studies.

Guild members study and collect occurrences of their registered surname worldwide.

Births, marriages, deaths, and census records are just the start …

Some members reconstruct families, some conduct DNA studies. Others study the source of the name, its distribution and migration. Guild members have an astonishing range of expertise!

A one-name study can be as broad or as narrow as the researcher chooses to make it.

To help members the Guild provides – space for a study website that can be preserved, educational opportunities in the form of Videos and seminars, a comprehensive in-house wiki for members to consult on anything, on line get-togethers, archives for members materials, specialized indexes, Facebook groups, etc.

Our Mission – The Guild will strengthen its position as the centre of excellence for surname studies by educating the worldwide genealogical community in one-name studies and empowering members to share their knowledge and expertise.
