SU31 Murder at the Galt House Hotel: Friendly Fire During the Civil War
Luncheon sponsored by the National Genealogical Society
Sunday, 25 May 2025, 12:15 p.m.
The murder of General William Nelson in 1862 by fellow General Jefferson Davis marked an event during the Civil War where the accused was not charged.
Attendees of the NGS luncheon will be entertained with the historical background of murder and violence among senior military officers, and the careers of Generals Jefferson Davis and William Nelson. We’ll hear about the events leading up to the shooting, and General Davis’s career following the murder. This promises to be a very entertaining presentation.
Michael L. Strauss, AG, is an Accredited Genealogist and faculty member at GRIP, SLIG, and IGHR where he coordinates the military courses.
This luncheon requires separate registration in addition to the main conference registration. Seating is limited, so register now.
