The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society (NYG&B)
The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society (NYG&B) is the most authoritative source for research on New York families. Founded in 1869, it is the only statewide and the largest genealogical society in New York. Three member benefits are publications (our two quarterly journals, the NYG&B Record and the New York Researcher), educational programming, and online resources (our extensive eLibrary and website that hosts more than 150 Research Aids and county guides). The Society published its authoritative, landmark guide to New York research, the New York Family Research Guide and Gazetteer and more recently the New York City Municipal Archives: An Authorized Guide for Family Historians, and recently released guides for all 62 New York counties.
Members and volunteers participate in indexing projects from home and onsite. New digitization programs will provide additional content for NYG&B members.
The New York State Family History Conference, now organized by the NYG&B, is offered every two years, and the conference venue will rotate around the state.
The NYG&B welcomes members who are curious about researching New York family history. Community members may subscribe to the NYG&B eNews and blog to keep up with the latest news on New York research.
