Virtual Family Reunions in 2021 will allow you to share and gather genealogical data, and keep in contact with distant family members. In the past year the world has not had the opportunity to often connect with their families. Living in the digital age has given us a unique opportunity to stay in touch by email, social media, and virtual meetings.

This presentation will help you reach out and plan a “Virtual Family Reunion” this year. We will also cover how to best use social media on the Facebook.com platform to preserve and share your family stories, photographs, and even recipes. How many times have you had a photo and you were not sure who it was? Using a social media family group on Facebook you can ask the opinion of others. You can pick a relative and ask others to share family stories about them. The interaction of chatting live with cousins versus sending a letter in the mail will aide you in your research questions. You can quickly find out about family events such as births and marriages within your greater family. We will discuss scheduling the reunion and keeping a record of the reunion on your Facebook or YouTube channel. We will address “Beyond the Reunion” where we will offer strategies on how to maintain interest in your online family group on social media beyond your first virtual reunion. This will include engaging family members in a genealogical project. The application platforms for your “Virtual Family” reunion we will be demonstrated on both Zoom and Skype.
