SESSION:  F348   TRACK: Western States         TITLE:  Her Piece of the Prairie: Women Homesteaders of the West

Rebecca Whitman Koford, CG, CGL, specializes in Maryland and military records research. She is executive director of the Board for Certification of Genealogists (BCG) and director of Gen-Fed. She has lectured extensively and her articles have appeared in NGS Magazine, APG Magazine, and other journals.

Koford is presenting three lectures in Sacramento. The first focuses on methodology and will help you utilize methods to ensure your genealogy research is directed, focused, and efficient. Her second lecture is part of the BCG Skillbuilding track. In it, Koford makes the case that conflicting evidence is a gift, because reconciling the conflict often leads to new discoveries. On Friday, she discusses women homesteaders and how homesteading advanced the equality of women. Methods for researching women’s land claims in the west will be covered.

There is a BCG Skillbuilding track every day, Wednesday through Saturday.  Be sure to check out the many talks designed to help you up your genealogical game and research like a pro. You need not be working toward certification to learn a great deal from these sessions.

Online, pre-registration for Sacramento is now closed. Registration reopens May 23 onsite in Sacramento.
