Session: T143 TRACK: Virginia and Her Neighbors TITLE: Kentucky Research from the Comfort of Home
Do you need to do Kentucky research but cannot travel at this time? Learn about Kentucky resources available online from a wide range of repositories. Tips for using the online platforms and for acquiring records only indexed or mentioned will be discussed.
Session: F217 TRACK: Migration TITLE: Cumberland Gap and the Wilderness Road
The Cumberland Gap and Wilderness Road served as a gateway to the West. We’ll take a look at the early history and exploration of the area. The Hensley Settlement on the Kentucky side dates to 1845. A Civil War battle brought soldiers there in the 1860s. We’ll look at personal accounts and records found in repositories dealing with migration and settlement of the region.
Session: S328 TRACK: Eastern States TITLE: Tennessee Valley Authority and Its Records
When Tennessee Valley Authority built reservoirs and dams, it forced relocation for many persons, businesses, churches, and cemeteries. We’ll look at records created by TVA as well as other records available about displaced persons and flooded locations. Resources from many repositories covering reservoirs throughout the affected area will be included.
