Religion, S429, “O Man of God! How to Thoroughly Research Ministers of the Gospel,” 11 am, Saturday, 13 May 2017 with Daryl Johanson
I will be presenting“O Man of God! How to Thoroughly Research Ministers of the Gospel.” I encourage anyone with ancestors who were ministers to come to this lecture, which will include a case study. Even if your ancestor lived in obscurity in the rural countryside, there is a good chance that records survive that give insights into his life. This lecture was developed to honor the lives of those who ministered across America with the purpose of carrying the gospel throughout the land. To study these ministers’ lives is to study American history.
We’ll look at how to develop timelines of their lives using many different sources, and perhaps even enjoy some “spiritual learning” along the way. You may be inspired by their lives to write a scholarly genealogical article, compile several generations’ history, advance your own family’s knowledge of their ancestor, or transcribe a great work that needs to be known! Will you come?
About Your Speaker: Daryl S. Johanson is from San Antonio, Texas and currently serves as Treasurer of the National Genealogical Society. Her interest in genealogy began when she wanted to know more about her paternal grandfather. She discovered the NGS Family History Conference just in time to attend the 2011 Charleston, SC conference. Friends made in Charleston are still friends today. Expert lecturers opened her eyes to the wonderful opportunities for learning, and her desire for an “all-in”pursuit of genealogical education awakened. Since 2011, she has been to NGS conferences in Cincinnati, Richmond, St. Charles, and Fort Lauderdale, and is delighted to be going to Raleigh!
