The Kathryn Linnemann Branch Library was opened in 1982 in St Charles, Missouri. At that time approximately 500 volumes pertaining specifically to history and the study of genealogy were separated from the general collection. Originally established as a special collection in 1979, the local history collection was renamed the Bizelli-Fleming Local History Collection in 1985 to honor the contributions of two former library board members, Mr. Omar Bizelli and Dr. Robert Fleming.
The collection includes books, bound periodicals, microfilm, microfiche, periodicals and videos. In addition, we offer access to genealogical and historical information on the Internet. Books are classified by subject using the Dewey Decimal System. To discover what books are available in your area of interest, use the library’s online catalog to access the collection by author, title, subject, or keyword.
In addition to its own collections the Library has teamed with several local historical societies to catalog their physical book collections so that they may be accessed by researchers from a distance. While these items do not circulate, their cataloging can save researchers valuable time and bring to light these formerly hidden collections.
The Library System also has been involved in creating digital access to local resources, particularly those involving local newspapers. Many of these have been made available via access to the newspaper archives and the State Historical Society of Missouri’s Digital Newspaper Project. The most recent addition is the Wentzville Union.
Most recently the library has begun a program to capture oral histories of our residents. The “yourstory” program offers an exciting opportunity for volunteers. Contact Local History Librarian Jim Rhodes at 636-723-0232 for more information.
The Kathryn Linneman Library will be present at the “Society Showcase” on Tuesday, 07 May from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm in the Grand Ballroom Foyer. For a complete list of participants in the Showcase, please click HERE. We look forward to seeing you there.
