The Sappington-Concord Historical Society (SCHS) brings together people interested in the history of the Sappington and Concord areas of South St. Louis County, Missouri. The Society’s major function is to collect and preserve materials that illustrate the history of the area. Ross Wagner, teacher, farmer, and historian, left the Society not only his large collection of genealogical and local historical papers and books, but also his house and grounds.

The Society’s logo, featuring a dinner bell and plow, is symbolic of the rural and farming heritage of the area. Grown & Gathered Heirloom Farm, in conjunction with SCHS, is a working farm sharing that heritage with the community. During the summer a weekly farmer’s market and educational program are held at the Ross A. Wagner Historical Center.

SCHS works closely with the Lindbergh Schools. Our collaborations have included the acquisition of a sculptured bust of Charles A. Lindbergh and restoration of the Concord School bell. The Society presents “Tombstone Tales”, along with the “Past and Present Partnership” program. We have awarded a scholarship to a graduating high school student; sponsored an archaeological dig; and gifted an historical plaque honoring the location of the new Lindbergh Schools Administration Building as the “Crossroads of Community & Commerce.”

SCHS also published Hometown Heroes, a collection of 140 stories told by area military veterans who served during the 20th century. Every year SCHS honors veterans by sponsoring an annual Memorial Day Ceremony. Sappington Concord: A History, originally published in 1999, was recently scanned, and the reprinted history book sells for $35.00. It will be available for purchase at the 2019 Conference.

Membership meetings with an informative program are held quarterly. Annual membership dues are $10 for individual, $15 for spouse or partner. Dues include the quarterly newsletter. Find out more at our website Sappington-Concord Historical Society.

SCHS will be present at the  “Society Showcase” on Tuesday, 07 May from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm in the Grand Ballroom Foyer. For a complete list of participants in the Showcase, please click HERE. Join the Sappington-Concord Historical Society and we’ll make history together!
