SA55 From Chaos to Clarity: Navigating Paragraph German Church Records with Ease

Saturday, 24 May 2025, 4:00 p.m., Stopher room

Overwhelmed by those paragraph church records? Learn how to extract the information you need in this fascinating case study.

This session will help you understand how German church records are formatted – so you know what to expect where and what to look for in every record. We’ll discuss how find your ancestor’s name in the jumble of handwritten words, and how to find the next generation back and what keywords to look for. It will also cover what additional information may be available in church records, and resources to help you transcribe and translate on your own.

Katherine Schober of Germanology Unlocked is a German-English genealogy speaker, author, and translator, specializing in the old German handwriting.
