Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are what make conferences successful, and we hope you will take advantage of this unique opportunity to volunteer during the event. You do not have to be a member of NGS or registered for the conference to volunteer. Volunteers will assist as we plan and conduct the 2024 Virtual Family History Conference. Please let us know your interest and we will contact you with more information, including training resources.

If you would like to volunteer, sign up for opportunities that interest you most. Click the button at the bottom of the page to go to SignUp Genius.

Volunteer opportunities include:

Q&A moderators will join our speakers on Zoom during each presentation to ask questions posed by the audience. Responsibilities include working with the speaker to draft some prepared questions (to use as needed); monitoring audience chat and questions via Whova and asking those questions during the live Q&A session; and acting as a facilitator to help end the session on time. Requirements include a good internet connection, webcam, and microphone; comfort with Zoom; and comfort with Whova (training provided).

Social media volunteers assist NGS with graphic design, copywriting, and social media strategy. If you have skills in these areas, please let us know and we will contact you with further information.

The team drafts, enters, and posts NGS conference news via WordPress blogging software. News includes important updates, deadlines, speaker and sponsor announcements, awards announcements, and other information from NGS during the conference. Requirements include comfort with WordPress blogging software (training is available); and the ability to write and edit copy using the NGS style guide. Ability to start in January 2024.

The team facilitates NGS-hosted online meetups on various topics including geographic interests, new members, first-time attendees, special interest groups including AI and DNA, and more. Requirements include familiarity with Whova (training provided) and the ability to facilitate discussion groups.

This team develops partnerships and programs to ensure the conference is open and inclusive of all people and communities and conducts outreach to facilitate international participation in the fully-virtual event.
