VIRGINIA GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY HOST EVENT | 2 June 2023 | 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. | $75 (cash bar)

“Celebrate! Virginia is for Family History Lovers!”

Friday evening, the Virginia Genealogical Society will host a cash bar cocktail hour and buffet dinner that will feature Virginia cuisine while mingling with costumed interpreters representing the three cultures of early Virginia. This informal event is designed to allow you to meet others who are doing research in the same geographic area of Virginia. If your research is not in Virginia, this can be your chance to find attendees who share a particular area of interest such as in Jewish records, African American research, or DNA while you enjoy regional beverages and cuisine.

Following the meal, a speaker from the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation will discuss the Convergence of Cultures, beginning in 17th-century Virginia. The founding of Jamestown brought people from three distinct cultures together: Powhatan (an Eastern Woodlands tribe), West Central Africans, and English. The presentation will examine how interactions between these three groups shaped the new Virginia colony, and how their legacies live on in Twenty-first Century America.
