SA32 The Intersection of Slavery and the American Revolution in Spanish Colonial Louisiana

Luncheon sponsored by Sons of the American Revolution

Saturday, 24 May 2025, 12:30 p.m.

When a cousin gave Michael Nolden Henderson two clues about their family’s history, he set out on a journey to uncover more about his enslaved ancestry in Colonial Louisiana. Little did he know that he would also discover and document several Revolutionary War patriots. Later, he would help influence the SAR’s 2015 policy revision for approving patriots who served in Spanish Colonial Louisiana during the Revolutionary War. In his presentation, Compatriot Henderson will inspire you with the complexity of his 30+-year research journey and captivate you with the tales and trails he discovered along the way.

Michael Nolden Henderson, Lieutenant Commander, U.S. Navy retired, was the first African American inducted into the Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution. Michael has documented his Native American, French, French Canadian, African, and German-Swedish ancestry as far back as 1657.
