SU22 Documenting Lives: Plantation Records as a Window into the Enslaved Experience

This presentation will delve into what plantation records reveal about the daily lives of families, living conditions, rules, and work expectations of enslaved individuals.

Topics include the daily lives of the enslaved, their living conditions, and work expectations and labor management. The economic aspects of slavery will be discussed, and how these records provide insights into the lives of enslaved individuals.

Bernice Alexander Bennett is an award-winning author of three books, family historian, genealogist, and nationally recognized guest speaker. Her research focuses on records of the enslaved in South Carolina.
